2013 Programme

The Old Well Theatre at Moffat, plays host to Dumfries and Galloway's first ever crime fiction festival which includes some of the top Scottish writers, up and coming talent and a blood stained array of excellent panels.

SATURDAY 20th April

10.00 - 11.00 Writer’s Workshop: Inga McVicar: “Getting your crime novel published”

11.30 - 12.30 Chris Brookmyre: “Bedlam” and other stories. Chris Brookmyre’s first novel “Quite Ugly One Morning” won the First Blood award in 1996

2.00 - 3.00 Lin Anderson in conversation with Michael Malone. Lin Anderson was co-organiser of “Bloody Scotland” in 2012. When not writing novels she writes screenplays

3.30 - 4.30 “Fresh Blood”: Mark Douglas Home, successful journalist turned novelist in conversation with Matt Bendoris, currently a journalist- and wrote his first novel on his Blackberry.

4.30 - 5.30 “Meet the authors” informal gathering in the Green Room (Book Sales area) with Michael Malone, Mark Douglas Home and Matt Bendoris

7.30 Film screening: “Strangers on a train” directed by Alfred Hitchcock. (Story by Patricia Highsmith, Screenplay by Raymond Chandler et al) Event hosted by Beattock Station Action Group

9pm till “Moffat Music Live” sinister songs and bloody ballads in the 12 midnight lounge bar of the Annandale Arms



SUNDAY 21st April

10.00 - 11.00 Writer’s workshop: with Aline Templeton:

‘I Can’t Put It Down’ - constructing a compelling narrative
11.30 - 12.30 Douglas Skelton: The Buck Ruxton case and its impact on modern forensic science.

2.00 Parallel sessions by 2 distinguished Scottish crime writers Aline Templeton: “A life of Crime”. Aline Templetons’ heroine, DCI Marjorie Fleming, (“Big Marge”) works in Galloway in the fictional town of Kirkluce.
Alex Gray, co-organiser of “Bloody Scotland” and author of the Detective Lorimer books. In conversation with Michael Malone, author of “Blood Tears”

3.30 Guided trip to the sites associated with the Buck Ruxton murder: led by Emilio (Jock ) Dicerbo, local author and historian.
